Mumbai, August 26, 2008… NDTV Imagine, the country’s popular entertainment destination on television, brings the biggest, brightest and funniest stars to TV screens with the ‘Airtel Salaam-E-Comedy Awards’. Recognizing comedy films and the artists that are part of this popular genre, this star studded, hugely entertaining awards show will be presented to television audiences on September 7th at 8:30 p.m. only on NDTV Imagine.
The awards have been conceptualized with the aim to recognize, nurture and honor the immense comic talent in Indian cinema. Featuring scintillating and rib-tickling performances that had the audience enthralled, the inaugural awards ceremony was a runaway success. Hosted by the hugely entertaining duo of Ranvir Shorey and Suresh Menon, the show featured a combination of performances by Bollywood’s best and hilarious acts by some of the country’s funniest people.
Amisha Patel and Rakhi Sawant charmed audiences with their scintillating performances. The evening lit up with the spectacular performance by the king of dance and comedy, Govinda, and the talented Rimmi Sen, Sharman Joshi and Rajpal Yadav. From spoofs on the films from Bollywood to their interpretation of the latest ad films, the comic talent soon had the audience in splits with their gags. Suresh Menon was the master of disguise, donning many avatars from Bappi Lahiri to Laloo Prasad Yadav during the show, while Raju Srivastav, Ranvir Shorey and others made the evening memorable with their own brand of humor.
Showing their support for this genre of films and its talented artists were many personalities from the industry like Govinda, David Dhawan, Madhur Bhandarkar, Konkana Sen, Johnny Lever, Satish Shah, Shekhar Suman, Johnny Lever, Sajid Khan, Jaaved Jaffrey, Kapil Dev, Vinay Pathak, Ria Sen, Yukta Mookhey, Rituparna Ghosh, Randeep Hooda, Poonam Dhillon, Atul Kulkarni, Bappi Lahiri and many more.
Airtel Salaam-E-Comedy Awards featured an eminent panel of judges from the industry such as Ketan Mehta, Kundan Shah, Honey Irani, Sudhir Mishra, Satish Kaushik and Ashok Pandit. Together they selected the winners across many award categories (January 1st 2007 - April 30th 2008) such as Best Comic Dialogue, Best Comedy Character, Best Comedy Scene, Best Supporting Comic (Actor and Actress) and Best Comedy Jodi amongst others. The Airtel Salaam-E-Comedy Awards also presented an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Comedy to one of Bollywood's most loved comedians.
